MyTRIZ Update ... Giving you the edge through School of Creative and Innovative Thinkers

Last May, when we announced that the MyTRIZ Workshop 2013 to be held this coming November will focus on School of Creative and Innovative Thinkers, many of you wrote in to register.  You were asked to block your calendar instead and wait … Finally, the wait is over, you can now sign up by going to www.mytriz.com.my, find the Conference & Workshop tab, select the session that you plan to attend and follow the instructions to register.

Held throughout the month of November, you can attend any one of the six 3-day workshops at Melaka, Cyberjaya, Kuching and Penang.  Mr. Anatoly Guin and Dr. Mark Barkan, both TRIZ Masters, will be facilitating the workshop aimed at improving the problem solving and innovation proficiency. It will be based on the methods for solving Open Problems.  Places are limited.  Each workshop is only open to 50 participants on “first come, first served” basis. More information can be obtained from the MyTRIZ Workshop 2013 information brochure.

June whizzed by, as did July, and for most of August, 73 teams prepared for the MyTRIZ Competition 2013. When the 2nd MyTRIZ Competition was launched regionally, MyTRIZ did not expect such tremendous interest from local and regional teams.  The proposals were submitted by end of August 2013 and the judging will begin in September.  The 8 finalists are set to be announced by mid-October.

The competition finals will be held on 29th November 2013 at Golden Sands Resort, Penang.  The event is open to all TRIZ practitioners, but you are required to register.  Please sign on to www.mytriz.com.my, find the Conference & Workshop tab and search for MyTRIZ Competition 2013 FINALS to register.  We can only accommodate 200 participants on complimentary basis to this event.  Great opportunity to learn!

People who have learnt about TRIZ are cautious about its effectiveness and struggle to proliferate it aggressively at their organizations. It is hard to determine its value without first applying it. To help organizations get over this limitation, MyTRIZ launched 10 FREE consulting projects. As it turned out, the organizations were not cautious about taking up this offer but snapped them up like any other free gifts.  The program was over-subscribed, now we have over 25 projects being worked.  Great progress has been made on some projects. So keep an eye out for our articles that share the success and difficulty of implementing TRIZ.

Rounding up the happenings on TRIZ, Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) initiated a Round Table Discussion to accelerate the development of TRIZ in the country.  About 30 leading TRIZ practitioners met at the MPC Northern Region Office on 1 August 2013 to share their perspectives.  Great move by MPC!

One Malaysian got the opportunity to attend the recent International TRIZ Fest 2013.  His paper was selected for presentation and Issac Lim did not miss the opportunity to travel to Kiev, Ukraine, and share his work with the TRIZ gurus.  “It was a great experience to be at TRIZ Fest 2013 and I made significant contacts with the experts”, quipped Issac when we met up with him upon his return to Malaysia. TRIZ-Fest 2013 was a gathering of the seasoned and highly experienced TRIZ masters together with TRIZ enthusiasts of all levels of practice.

Building a community of TRIZ practitioners locally and regionally has been a key charter of MyTRIZ.  With the belief that an established community could be an important source of knowledge and discovery, we were thrilled to learn about similar effort initiated by Komsomolsk-na-Amure State University and Korea Polytechnic University.

The effort linked 5 countries through the International Russian-Korean-Japanese-Chinese-Taiwanese On-Line Student Conference on TRIZ Technology. The virtual event is planned on 28-29 November 2013 targets the participation of university students, lecturers and researchers. We would like to encourage Malaysian universities to participate.  For more information, please write to Prof. Victor Berdonosov, at berd1946@gmail.com or berd46@mail.ru.

This pretty much wraps up another exciting chapter of TRIZ development in Malaysia. We look forward to seeing you at the MyTRIZ Workshop and Competition in November 2013.

Happy Merdeka Day!

Dr. TS Yeoh

MyTRIZ President
